Hiya, we're James and Liza
We've been here since August 2025 because we wanted this to be our life, looking after a proper carp lake and making sure you have a brilliant week. The stock speaks for itself, lots of confirmed 50s, heading fast to the the 60 mark, loads over 30lb, all in beautiful condition. James loves working with nature and knows if you give the fish the right environment, they'll do the rest, so that's exactly what we've done. 2025 saw big winter improvements; dredging, new swims and getting the biomass right, so our carp can really come into their own.
When you come to stay with us, we'll go out of our way to make sure you have the fishing holiday you want, whether that's advice, banter, and company, or just being left in peace and quiet surrounded by nature to get on with fishing. Either way works for us!
Tight lines, PBs, good laughs and great food – that's what fishing holidays should be made of.
Serious carp, relaxed vibes 🎣
James
James is the fishing bloke. He's been fishing since he was a kid and loves everything about it, so the obvious thing to do was train in lake and riverside management. He's a serious carper who's also spent years piking, and his favourite fishing phrase is "stop me if I'm boring you..." 😂 When you arrive (after a cuppa), he'll get your gear round to your swims and chat to you about where the carp have been hanging out lately. He's always around if you want to chat tactics or need a hand with anything. Or if you just want peace and quiet for the week and to do your own thing, that's absolutely fine too. It's your holiday.
Liza
Liza gets stuck in looking after the lake, organises your bookings and all the important details (oh and she fishes too, so gets it), she'll check you have have everything you need for your stay. If you're having food, she'll check when you want to eat and if there's anything you don't like, so we can make sure you enjoy every meal. We'll bring breakfast to your swim each morning and check how you got on during the night. Chatting about last night catches over a cuppa and what the tactics are for the day, is the best way to start the day in her book! 😊
Dylan
Dylan's our lake cat. He might wander over at some point to check out what you're up to. He thinks he's in charge – he's a cat, so to be fair he probably is! Or he just might not bother. Who knows? He could have other important things to do like chasing lizards and watching bait boats from one of the trees. He's very friendly and of course just plain nosy!
What a brilliant week we've had at Genets carp lake and great to meet new owners James and Liza. Thanks to James for his advice and tips on spots and to Liza for her excellent meals which kept us going all week. Already looking forward to going back next year.

We've been visiting Genets for close to 20 years, so it's fair to say the place means a lot to us. With the recent change in ownership, we arrived with a few nerves; not because we doubted the new team, but simply because the previous owners had created such a special atmosphere over the years. Thankfully, any apprehension quickly disappeared. We had a brilliant week, and James and Liza couldn't have been more welcoming. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel completely at ease and right at home. The food was absolutely top-notch, every meal was delicious, generously portioned, and thoughtfully prepared. They were incredibly accommodating with everyone's preferences (yes, even the apricots!), which made mealtimes a real highlight. Also, nearly forgot to mention but we caught loads of fish too! 1 50+, 4 40+ and 13 30+. It's wonderful to see Genets continuing to thrive under such capable and caring hands. The essence of what makes it so special is still very much alive, and we're already looking forward to our next visit! Andy, Mick & Matt

We had another fantastic week. The weather was hot, the fish were obliging, and the beer was cold. Thank you Liza and James for the lovely food, and keeping the fridge stocked with beer and all the tips and advice. We are loving the new swims - so comfortable being all on one level and are looking forward to seeing the results of your planned work for the Winter .

All of our group of 4 caught and 3 with new PBs, First time at Genets and wouldn't hesitate to book again, James and Liza were amazing hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely lake, quiet surroundings, people who run the lake brilliant, can't do enough for you. Breakfast baguette really good.
Fishing very good, carp are in very good condition good mix of 20s,30s,40s and a few 50s, purpose built double swims. Can't fault it, English loo, kitchen, showers, bait freezer and fridge & wifi, ideal for drive and survive

Absolutely blown away with our week on this lake. James and Liza were just amazing, everything you could ask for from lake owners, supplied us with everything we needed and the food was absolutely amazing!! I do not have one bad word to say about this venue, fishing was amazing and like I said already the owners James and Liza were impeccable they really couldn’t do more! Will definitely be back soon!!!

What can I say! We've just spent a great week a top French carp lake with very welcoming hosts. The food package was top notch and we're already thinking about our next visit in 2027. Absolutely exceeded expectations, greeted by James and Liza who were fantastic really went above and beyond to make our trip special, helped out so much. Facilities were perfect, clean and tidy . We have been to Genets before and really enjoyed the fishing package it provides. On our arrival we were greeted by James and Liza the new owners and they gave us a great reception and showed us around, once we had a walk around the lake James loaded all of our fishing tackle on his trailer and promptly delivered it to our swims. We had the food package, breakfast is delivered to your swim in the morning which is a baguette of bacon and sausage with tea and coffee. The evening meal is severed in the lodge and the menu can be found on their website. The meals are first class all home made and plenty of it, plus a desert later on. Liza went above and beyond to cater for any food preferences. James is working hard on the lake with big improvements planned for the winter, which will bring the lake forward dramatically and we are really looking forward to our return. We have already booked and look forward to another amazing weeks fishing with James and Liza at The Take @ Genets.

What can I say about our trip. Looked online for a new venue to try, Found Genets, hit the jackpot. James and Liza could not be more helpful. The lake is lovely and a creation of James's passion. Liza's food was top drawer. Some nice fish up to 47lb with the big girls not playing ball. But a great week with some good banter. A big thank you to James and Liza. The regular guys will know it already, but for anyone wanting a perfect trip to catch some lovely carp, you will be hard pushed to find a more tranquil, well run venue 10/10

Brilliant!!! The hosts only moved in three days before we arrived, so they were as green as us about the lake. James and Liza looked after us both perfectly, with amazing food and hospitality. 100% will be returning. Between the two of us:- 2x 50lb+ 3x high 40s A whole heap of 30s and 20s My only complaint was not getting much sleep, bloody bite alarms going off all night!!!!

Fishing at Genets has for filled all the requirements that our group was looking for from a new French venue. James has a professional attitude to how he wants this fishery to be with a target for the future. Liza’s cooking and bubbly character is a massive positive to this adventure in their lives. Thank you for a wonderful weeks fishing 😁 I would recommend the food package, Liza is a great cook, you get more than enough on your plate 😁 James was really helpful for best spots & they have done a fantastic job with the pegs & are looking to do more. I had the best weeks fishing I've ever had in France, a total of 28 carp, 3 50+, 6 40+, 11 30+ & 8 20+. With James experience the fish are only going to get bigger 👍I would highly recommend Genêts to anyone. Fantastic lake & very peaceful surroundings, the only noise is wildlife & the odd tractor. PBs were broken & lots of stunning carp caught, especially a lovely 32lb ghost. See you again soon.
