The diggers arrived in early December, and we've been working flat out ever since. This is the big one - the project that's transformed how the lake fishes.

That's what this work is all about. Better fishing, healthier fish and access to all the areas you want to fish.

WHY WE DID IT

The lake's been running as a fishery since 2003 and like any mature lake, silt naturally builds up over time. We're doing maintenance that's been on the cards for a while - removing built-up silt to get back to proper depths.

In some areas, the silt was 2-3 feet deep, which affects water quality and reduces how deep the lake actually is. The dredging will reveal the original lake bed and uncover features that have been buried over the years and give the carp new areas to explore and new spots for you to fish.

We'll be sorting depths across the lake and making the whole lake fishable, not just parts of it. Better access across all areas means more choice for where you want to fish.

THE TECHNICAL BIT

Removing excess silt creates more water volume, which is critical for fish growth. When carp have proper space and depth, they can reach their full potential. We'll talk more about the biomass side of this in our lake management posts, but the bottom line is simple: more water = bigger, healthier carp.

This also means better water quality, better feeding areas and clearer conditions throughout.

WHERE WE'RE AT

The work has had its challenges (more on that in another post!), but it's done. The lake is better than ever - same beautiful Genêts you know, just fishing at its full potential.
